Nurse Practitioner

NURSE PRACTITIONER - MINOR ILLNESS & INJURIES CLINIC

A service designed to provide patients with access to advice and treatment as quickly as possible for minor illnesses and injuries. Nurse Practitioners have advanced skills in taking a health history, examination, diagnosis and treatment. They are able to write prescriptions and make referrals where appropriate.

Please do not make an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner if you are 15 years of age or younger, are pregnant or suffering with problems that are already under GP review. For Mental Health concerns such as anxiety, depression or low mood you will still need to make an appointment with your GP.

The Nurse Practitioner has on the day appointments available for patients with acute symptoms of:

EAR, NOSE AND THROAT

  • Sore throats
  • Ear pain/discharge
  • Hearing loss/change
  • Cold/flu-like symptoms & viral illnesses
  • Sinusitis or nasal congestion
  • Nose bleeds

HEADACHE/DIZZINESS

EYES

  • Conjunctivitis/itchy sore eyes
  • Styes

CHEST

  • Cough
  • Worsening COPD/asthma

ABDOMEN, BLADDER AND BOWEL

  • Urinary tract infections/cystitis
  • Diarrhoea and Vomiting
  • Constipation

GYNAECOLOGY

  • Vaginal itching/discharge

SKIN

  • Bites and stings
  • Burns
  • Lacerations/cuts
  • Skin infections/impetigo
  • Rashes – e.g. allergy/shingles/chicken pox
  • Eczema

MUSCULOSKELETAL

  • Sprains/strain
  • Acute back pain
